How to Get Involved in the Society for the Psychology of Women (SPW)

SPW welcomes new members interested in women's issues. There are many ways to get involved.
 
Join a task force or committee to promote a feminist agenda, participate in meaningful dialogue as a member of a dynamic and diverse division, and/or become involved in the leadership of the division.
 
SPW welcomes all voices. We are actively recruiting early career psychologists, women of color and women interested in feminist leadership and collaboration.

Get Involved

Become a Mentor

At SPW, we believe in the transformative power of mentorship. Our Mentor Match Program connects members with experienced mentors who share a feminist perspective. While applications are currently closed, we encourage you to consider joining in the future. When the program reopens, all Div. 35 members can apply to become a mentor or request mentorship.

SPW is home to several active committees focused on diverse topics in the psychology of women. Check out our Div. 35 Executive Committee Roster to find the committee that aligns with your passions, or reach out to the current president to discuss creating a new committee.

SPW also has specialized task forces dedicated to advancing specific issues and initiatives affecting women. You can learn more about these task forces and find contact information for the task force chairs on our website.

Sections

SPW features several sections that focus on the unique experiences of different groups of women, including:

Each section has a dedicated leadership committee and various ways to get involved.

Graduate students have a unique opportunity to engage with SPW and gain leadership experience. In addition to participating in committees, task forces, and sections, students can apply to be Campus Representatives, advocating for feminist psychology at their institutions. There is also the opportunity to apply for the position of Graduate Student Representative, where you’ll receive mentorship and support to shape your future leadership within the division.

At Div. 35, we believe in the power of diverse voices, and we welcome new members passionate about women’s issues. Whether you’re looking to connect with like-minded professionals, advocate for feminist change, or step into a leadership role, there are countless opportunities to engage with our vibrant community. We actively encourage early-career psychologists, women of color, and those interested in feminist leadership to join us in shaping a more inclusive and impactful future.

How to Join the Division

You can join the Division by visiting https://join.apa.org/divisions

 

Please note that while membership in the American Psychological Association (APA) is not required to join the Division, the APA processes all memberships and dues. As a result, you may be prompted to create an APA account during the process; however, this does not mean you are joining the APA itself.
