Division 35 Sections

Established in 1984, our section grew from the Committee on Black Women's Concerns to amplify the voices of Black women in psychology. We offer a platform for invited presentations at the APA's Annual Convention and continue to support and empower Black women in the field.
Current President is:
Batsirai Bvunzawabaya, Ph.D.

Section III has a rich history, beginning in 1977 as a task force led by Martha Bernal, PhD. It became a committee in 1986 and was recognized as a Section in 2003. Over the years, it has been shaped by the leadership of inspiring Latinas like Oliva Espin, PhD, Hortensia Amaro, PhD, and many others, whose contributions continue to enrich the field.
Current President is:
Jacqueline Fuentes, MEd., MSW, PhD

Section IV was established in 2003 as the section on "Lesbian & Bisexual Women’s Issues" and became the "Section on Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Concerns" in 2010 to be more inclusive of transgender and gender-variant women. In 2021, the section's name was updated to "Section on Sexual and Gender Diversity" to reflect its broader focus on sexual and gender diversity.
Current President is:
Cristina Magalhaes, Ph.D.

Section V (Psychology of Asian Pacific American Women), established in 2008, focuses on advancing a feminist understanding of the psychology of Asian Pacific American women. Our members include graduate students, faculty, clinicians, university psychologists, and training directors—anyone who shares our mission and values.
Current President is:
Angela Kim, PhD

Established in 2010, this section provides a forum for Alaska Native, American Indian, and Indigenous women to network, seek mentorship, and support one another. We aim to promote the goals of the APA and Division 35, advance the understanding of Indigenous women's psychology, and develop culturally and gender-appropriate research and treatment models for Indigenous women.
Current President is:
